Workplace Trends: What Australia Can Learn from the UK
We have discussed various workplace trends that we believe should stay and should go, however there are many more workplace strategies that Australia just has not adopted yet; or, is adopting at a very slow rate though test-phases to see if they will be successful or not.
There are a couple workplace strategies in which the UK has adopted years ago and is now a common and general expectation to all employees. Granted, not all strategies work for all organisations, however, what are the simple workplace concepts we believe Australia should adopt?
- Flexible schedules and better work-life balances
More Australians are offering more flexible working schedules, something that the UK has done for some time now. However, it isn’t just about flexibility, it is also about working less hours. Instead of checking emails throughout the evening and tackling work before bed, the UK seem to be better at leaving work behind and having a greater work-life balance. - Silver quotas
Many UK based organisations are introducing “silver quotas” in order to help employees stay in the workforce longer and offering after-career support. Australia’s workforce often turns its face to older job applicants simply due to the age, even though it could be in their best interest to accumulate further industry experience. By implementing a “silver quota,” Australian companies can ensure older Australians can finally support themselves.
These are just two of many different workplace strategies in which the Australian workforce can learn from and adapt to.
