Make your office space move or make your office staff move?

Make your office space move or make your office staff move?

The office environment has never been the same in the recent years.

How do you imagine pure agility in the office?

We have seen alternative office ideas that really work for the past 10 years or so. Whilst there is no one size fit all office design which would be the silver bullet for every organisation, this year’s Australian Interior Design Awards winner for Workplace Design is making the office environment move by using sliding whiteboards.

The 2018 Australian Interior Design Awards winner for Workplace Design features reconfigurable workspace layout

This winning workplace design is done by BVN for Customer Experience Company, a 500-square-metre office in Macquarie Place, in Sydney. The office features reconfigurable workspace layout using suspended stackable whiteboards that can be movable along a ceiling mounted track which zigzags through the office contingent on staffs’ need.

The Wow Factor

The jury was impressed by the interior design’s impressive plan and innovative thinking. The staffs are fully agile converting the small studio for various functionalities: quiet, focused work, ad hoc team collaboration, large-scale events and client workshops.

The panel recognises the introduction of a new level of spatial informality which breaks the point of entry and actual work areas. It presents yet another model of office flexibility which the jury regards to have a long-term impact and influence.

CEC Office

It is empowering in a multitude of ways and at the same time benefits space efficiency and employee productivity. The office concept challenges traditional ways of working and how we work today and is exactly the opposite of Activity Based Working (ABW), where it is the people who move, not the environment.

The hot question going around interior designers desks would now be – what will we move – is it the office design or office layout or is it the employees?
